Maturity midseason
Growth habit indet.
Leaf type regular, wispy
Fruit color red
Fruit shape plum, elongated
Fruit size medium
Fruit type slicer
Variety type

mid-season, indet. plants with good regular leaf foliage cover and medium yield of red torpedo shaped plum shaped tomatoes, 3-4.5" long, 5-6 oz. Some fruits have yellow shoulders. Despite the shape, this is not a paste tomato, as it is too juicy to be the one. The taste is excellent, sweet and balanced, it reminded me of the flavor of Prue tomato. Very nice slicer tomato that can also be used for making tomato juice.

Seed source:

NY MA C 09 (Carolyn Male of Salem, New York) / Shelley Sparrow of Minnesota

Year grown: 2009

Location: Zone 7b, PNW, Anmore, BC, Canada (760 ft above sea level)

  • Italian origin. Shelley Sparrow of Minnesota got seeds from a friend in Maine who got them from a bookstore manager, Frank. Frank got the seed from a customer, Eleanor Gray, of Bristol, Maine in the 1970s. Eleanor Gray was told the seeds originally came from Italy. Locally in Maine the variety has been known as "Eleanor's Tomatoes" and/or "Frank's".
  • First introduced in the Seed Savers 2009 Yearbook by Carolyn Male of Salem, New York (NY MA C), who also shared the seeds with Tomatoville members in December 2008/January 2009.
